Let me start by sharing my point of view on these luggage covers:

More than just a screen to hide the boot's content from peering eyes, when the hatch is open, the cover becomes one of  the most visible part of the car. When the hatch is closed, the cover becomes an integral part of the interior. It should therefore, be of the same quality as the rest of the interior.

Anyone who attended one of our gatherings will agree that at shows, our cars spend most of their time with the hatch open.

For these reasons, I consider the side of the cover that faces the inside of the cargo area to be the show side. That is where I will put the finished side of the leather and engravings like the Porsche crest or the model designation.

Please note that the cover in these pictures was especially designed for one of my best friend's black on black GTS. My own car only serves as support here. Please forgive the color clash.

In most cases, the raw suede in the back of the cover is perfect for the surface that faces the inside of the car.

Because the leather that I use is always vat dyed, the suede is color coordinated and it's natural texture not only looks luxurious, but also has the added benefit of cutting out the glare and reflections on the back window.

In some cases, because of specific color requests, or for other design and production reasons, it might become necessary to line the cover. This one is lined with black Alcantara which also cuts the glare to the back window.

One thing I never liked about the standard luggage cover is how the edges just flopped down. They are meant to follow the contour of the quarter panels, but because the material is rather flimsy, the edges just turn of themselves and look messy.

I re-designed the shape of the edges and added a stiff border that acts both as a finishing touch and as a support.

For those with a color combination in their interior, this is also a good place to add visual interest.

When the hatch is closed, the stiff edge keeps it's shape and follows the contour of the quarter panel:

The original cover was designed with zippered extensions that get rolled and snapped when not in use. In my experience, few people would carry stuff in their shark that would be messy enough to warrant un-zipping and using the extensions. The back of the seats are carpeted and shark owners are usually careful about what goes back there.

Rather, most will use the flaps in their rolled up position, as pouches. Makeshift catchall for the small things we carry around and simply does not fit anywhere else.

The problem is that it all ends up looking messy. At least it did in mine.

So I decided to do away with the flaps, and replace them with fitted, rigid, leather boxes:

These boxes are covered with the same quality leather and color as your interior.

The boxes are lined with ABS and supported by an aluminum frame, which makes them light and sturdy.

At 20" x 4" x 6", each box will hold more than you could put in both folds of the old design, which basically doubles your storage, while keeping everything neat and out of sight.

The boxes are held to the cover itself with industrial Velcro. So, in a matter of seconds, one can detach one or both boxes and take them out of the car, without disturbing the cover itself.

If you need to load something that necessitates lowering the back seats, it can easily be done:

The cover itself uses the stock hardware and switching it from your old cover to the new is an easy task.

For those who do not have a cover, my friend Roger at 928sRus.com is stocking full kits and separate parts also (if you only need to refresh your bungees)
