Diamond Quilting
NOT ALL DIAMONDS ARE CREATED EQUAL

Since the time of the horse carriages, diamond quilted leather upholstery as been a standard of elegance and quality.

When done well, it creates a comfortable, aerated seating surface, that is in fact, the precursor of the modern ventilated seat.

The design as always been a staple of the high end British auto makers, and as gained in popularity recently.

Used by Bentley in their most expensive models:

What makes this timeless design so special, is the attention to details that it requires to achieve it.

Much more involved than simply sewing through a piece of foam, the proper quilted diamond panel will show crisp lines and well defined facets.

The layout as to be perfect, with all the points perfectly centered.

Lastly, the completed panel as to retain it's shape for years and remain breathable.

The modern foam technology easily solves both the resilience and breathability problems. So, a high quality, medium density, open cell foam, is laminated to a natural fiber backing.

I then laser the pattern into the laminate:

At this point, depending on the style and configuration of the pattern, each individual diamond is profiled. The leather cover is laminated to the assembly and the panel is stitched.

Many sizes, shapes and configurations are possible:

Alcantara

The diamonds can even be individually perforated to accomodate heaters or ventilation systems:
