Start by laying the luggage cover flat on a table. Center the top metal support over the leather, making sure you have the same amount of gap at each end.

You want to mark the place where the bungee comes out, at both ends

This is the shape of the cut that you will needs to make:

• Once you have made the marks at both ends, slide the metal U shaped bar into the leather. The opening of the "U" goes to the top.
• There is no need to push the metal all the way at this point. Just push enough of the metal so that it will support the leather while you make the cut:

• Once both sides are cut, it is time to get the metal in place and each bungee through their respective holes. The use of a stiff wire, makes the job easier:

Once both bungee are in their holes, secure the leather to the bar with the 2 little plastic squares. Then, thread the plastic locks onto each bungee and tie a secure knot.

I would advise to install the cover in the car before tightening the knots completely. It is often a good idea to shorten the bungees a bit, since they probably lost some of their resilience with age.
