This whole venture started with a need to customize my own Porsche 928.
Strangely enough, I choose this particular car because I liked the interior.
But after living with the car for a while, the wear on the seats and the mahogany vinyl on the dash, pod and center console, began to get to me. I looked around my area for an upholstery shop that could help me achieve the design I had in mind for my interior. But the quotes I received were exorbitant to the point of being obscene.
I searched the Internet for solutions and it soon became clear that no affordable solution was available.
For the most part, as soon as the name Porsche is associated with a project, the quote goes sky high. People wanted to convince me that quality work is necessarily very expensive. I don't agree with that premise and I sent out to prove them wrong.
In my search, I was lucky enough to find an old time craftsman. The gentleman had been in the upholstery business all his life, and even though he has been retired for awhile, is still well known in the area as a standard of excellence.
After pestering him for a long time, my behavior (which bordered on stalking) convinced him to do a project with me and teach me what I wanted to know.
The result was the front seats that are now in my car and the center piece of my whole design.
But more importantly, that was the beginning of this whole adventure.
Since then, I have acquired both the equipment and knowledge to permit me to recreate every single leather part in your Porsche.
The quality, by all account of my now numerous clients, is excellent. And the prices, I am happy to report, are very affordable.
My own interior recently won second place at the SITM 2006 "People's Choice" Concours, among more than 120 other sharks. And the interior is only half way done.
